The new owner of a 393,000-square-foot shopping center in Millville has hired a construction industry veteran to oversee the property and another recent addition to its portfolio.
Irgang Group, a Nyack, New York-based investment firm, said Gene Rarey will serve in a newly created position as an operations manager for retail properties. His role includes day-to-day oversight of Union Lake Crossing along Route 47 and of Poplin Place, a 196,462-square-foot power center outside Charlotte, North Carolina, both of which the firm recently acquired.
The Bridgeton resident joins Irgang Group with more than 30 years of experience in all phases of construction, according to a news release, along with a deep knowledge of the Millville site.
“Since 2010, Gene had been the ‘go-to-guy’ for the former owners of Union Lake Crossing, getting involved with everything from store build-outs to property maintenance and general trouble-shooting,” Irgang Group CEO Mark Irgang said. “We got to know Gene well during our due-diligence process on the property and were so impressed that we asked him to stay on when we completed the acquisition in November. When we added Poplin Place to our portfolio in March, we asked Gene to handle that property as well, and subsequently named him to this new position.”
Rarey’s responsibilities with the properties include hiring and overseeing all maintenance and common area construction contractors and coordinating with engineers, architects and inspectors on store build-outs and other projects, the news release said. Additionally, he will oversee fire inspections to keep the properties in compliance, general safety coordination, cost coordination and handling tenant or visitor complaints.
Operations of Irgang’s third retail property, the 129,000-square-foot Main Street South Fulton complex in Atlanta, continue to be handled by a local property manager.
